FIRST HALF DOUBLE LIFTS 'POINT OFF THE BOTTOM

WARRENPOINT Town climbed off the bottom of the table with this two-goal defeat of troubled Coleraine at Stangmore Park.

The Bannsiders started brightly, testing Warrenpoint 'keeper Jonathan Parr on a number of occasions.

Howard Beverland came close early on with a back post header from Stephen Carson's cross while, a little later, Gareth Tommons tested Johnny Parr after Aaron Canning had delivered the ball.

But Town moved in front after half-an-hour when, from a Stephen McCabe corner, Stephen Hughes nodded past Wayne Drummond.

And it was 2-0 three minutes after that when Marty Havern turned Ryan McIlmoyle to blast home from around 25 yards in off the far post.

Daniel Hughes almost added a third early in the second half only to be thwarted by an terrific Drummond save.

On 66 minutes the Coleraine 'keeper produced an acrobatic save to block a Stephen McCabe shot.

The visitors grabbed a goal back on 86 minutes when Canning flicked the ball on for Shane Jennings to volley home at the far post.
