The top two locked horns in a gripping encounter at Mourneview but, ultimately, both had to settle for a point.

The Bannsiders stormed into an eighth minute lead when Jamie McGonigle made no mistake from just inside area after a defensive error from Andrew Doyle and Simon Kelly left 'keeper Johnny Tuffey stranded.

Glenavon were reduced to ten men after a quarter-of-an-hour when Jamie Singleton was adjudged to have pulled Ian Parkhill back as he was about to burst into the area.

However, the Lurgan Blues levelled on 26 minutes after Andy Hall teed Mark Sykes up to run into the box and squeeze the ball past the advancing Chris Johns.

Coleraine regained the advantage on 53 minutes courtesy of a stunning Josh Carson right-foot shot into the bottom corner after Ciaron Harkin had done well to lay the ball off.

But Glenavon earned a share of the spoils with just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining after Sammy Clingan emphatically converted from the spot after Coleraine 'keeper Johns was adjudged to have brought down Hall in the box.
