FRIDAY night football returns to the Danske Bank Premiership this week as Dungannon Swifts host Ballymena United at Stangmore Park (745pm).

The Swifts languish perilously close to the relegation play-off position in tenth place just four points above Warrenpoint Town in 11th, so it is vital that they get something out of the game against Glenn Ferguson’s Ballymena side if they are to maintain some breathing space above the drop zone.

Dungannon are in decent form in the Premiership having lost just once in their last five games, but you have to go back four years to March 2011 to find the last time they tasted victory against Ballymena Utd at Stangmore.  It is also 10 games since they kept a clean sheet against United.

Ballymena United won 3-0 in this fixture in August and drew 2-2 in October, while they also knocked Darren Murphy’s side out of the Wasp Solutions League Cup thanks to a 3-1 win at the Showgrounds.

Despite United’s excellent performances in the Cups this season, their league form has been indifferent to say the least.  They have taken only 4pts from a possible 15 including that dramatic 5-5 draw with Portadown, and have struggled to keep clean sheets leading to them having the worst defensive record in the Premiership.
