GLENAVON shocked the visitors with the opening goal after just six minutes when an Andy Graham shot - albeit on target - took a deflection off a defender and beyond Elliot Morris.

Not long after Gary Hamilton crafted an early attempt at an equaliser only to fire straight at Davy O'Hare.

But Hamilton did find a way through on 34 minutes with a close range poke after Mark Turkington had failed to clear a Stephen Carson cross.

And Kyle Cherry might have added a second for Scott Young's side just a minute later only to fire very narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

Glentoran did make it 2-1 on 56 minutes, though, after Carson cut inside from the left to playe the ball across the face of goal for Colin Nixon to comfortably finish.

Remarkably Nixon struck again just three minutes later at the back post to extend Glentoran's lead after his initial effort was pushed out by O'Hare.

Glenavon's afternoon got worse with three minutes to go when defender Brendan Shannon was shown a straight red card by referee Arnold Hunter after an apparent objection to a decision.
