Glenavon returned to the top of the table with victory over Glentoran at The Oval in a game that produced three goals and four red cards.

Robbie McDaid edged Glentoran in front after 21 minutes when, from a John McGuigan cross, he nodded past Johnny Tuffey despite the keeper getting a hand to the ball.

But Glentoran were reduced to ten men a couple of minutes later when John Herron was shown a straight red card following a challenge on Mark Sykes.

And it got worse for the home side five minutes from the break when they lost another man with Calum Birney also taking an early bath for another foul on Sykes.

It took Glenavon ten minutes into the second half to make their numerical advantage count. Andrew Mitchell delivered a corner into the area which eventually made contact with an upright with Hall pouncing through a ruck of players to make no mistake from six yards.

Further efforts followed. Jamie Singleton saw a shot blocked after good play from Rhys Marshall and Sykes, Marshall then had a goalbound effort scrambled clear, Mitchell glanced the ball across the face of goal and Hall had a free-kick crash back off the post with Elliott Morris beaten.

Despite this, Glentoran almost moved in front themselves when William Garrett was twice denied by goalline clearance in quick succession, first from Josh Daniels and then by Marshall.

However, Glenavon's winner arrived with four minutes left when substitute Jordan Jenkins fired home from eight yards after a Conor McCloskey effort was parried into his path.

The game ended with a double sending off after Marshall and Garrett both received their second cautions following a melee, leaving Glentoran with only eight men on the pitch.
