Glentoran got the result they needed to secure a place in the Europa League play-offs with victory over Institute at The Oval.

The first half was slow to get going with perhaps only a Darren Murray effort from outside the box the highlight before a Nathan Kerr attempt from some 35-yards came back off an upright.

There was another chance just before the break when John Herron saw his shot from the edge of the six-yard box blocked.

Herron had another opportunity early in the second half but couldn't get the ball past 'Stute keeper Martin Gallagher but, at the other end, John Quigg's visitors might have snatched the lead themselves when Gavin Peers was lucky to deflect Gareth Brown's shot onto the roof of the net.

But the deadlock was broken with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining thanks to Murray's successfully converted spot-kick awarded after Curtis Allen had been upended.

Then, to make sure of the points, Marcus Kane nodded home in stoppage time from Chris Gallagher's corner to secure a place in the play-offs for Mick McDermott's men.
