HAUGESUND SINK REDS IN NORWAY

Cliftonville's interest in the Europa League ended with a 5-1 defeat away to Norwegian opponents FK Haugesund.

Trailing 1-0 from last week's first leg at Solitude, Paddy McLaughlin's side needed a good start to stand any chance of progressing but were rocked after just five minutes when Kristoffer Valde fired Haugesund in front with a 25-yard right-foot effort into the top corner.

However, Cliftonville were thrown a lifeline on 17 minutes when Conor McMenamin levelled on the night with a six-yard finish from Joe Gormley's cross.

But two goals in the latter stages of the first half put Haugesund firmly in the driving seat.

Anthony Ikedi initially rattled an effort against the crossbar before Martin Samuelsen directed a looping header past Richard Brush. Then, in first half stoppage time, Ibrahima Koné saw a shot creep over the line.

A further goal through Bruno Leite arrived seven minutes after the break before, on 68 minutes, Velde completed the scoring with his second of the night after cutting in from the left to curl a finish beyond Brush.
