A Paul Heatley goal just before the hour was enough for Crusaders to get the better of Newry City at Seaview.
Heatley might have opened the scoring earlier in the game after being played through by a Rory Patterson flicked header but Andy Coleman proved equal to his subsequent effort.
Crues skipper Colin Coates also came close to breaking the deadlock only to head narrowly wide from a corner while, for Newry, Jimmy Walker saw a free-kick well saved by Sean O'Neill.
After the break Patterson volleyed just over before Heatley grabbed what proved to be the winner.
The pair combined when Patterson touched the ball on, the City defence hesitated, and Heatley nipped in to take the ball past Coleman.
Crusaders had the ball in the net soon after when David Cushley headed home from a Jamie Glackin corner but the goal was ruled out after the referee spotted an infringement.
Newry worked hard to get back onto level terms but couldn't break down a resolute Crues defence.
Indeed, Patterson might have extended their advantage towards the end but Coleman did well to save with his feet.
