THERE was nothing between Glentoran and Linfield as the first 'Big Two' game of the season ended in stalemate.

Andy Waterworth fired the Glens in front after just seven minutes when, from a Jim O'Hanlon cross, he fired past Alan Blayney from just four yards.

The Blues might have levelled six minutes later through Brian McCaul only for his effort from a Robert Garrett pass to be spectacularly tipped over by Elliott Morris.

But a slip by Albert Watson not long after almost let Jimmy Callacher through to double Glentoran's lead while, on 22 minutes, Garrett was thwarted by a perfectly timed Marcus Kane tackle just as he was about to shoot.

Then, right at the end of the first half, Michael Carvill met a Winkie Murphy flick with an overhead kick only for the ball to go over.

Linfield did grab the equaliser on the hour, however, after Billy Joe Burns cut inside from the right to unleash a wonderful left-foot strike beyond Morris into the top corner.

There was a moment of danger in the visiting penalty area on 72 minutes after a Stephen Carson corner caused all sorts of problems before being eventually cleared by Jamie Mulgrew.

Then, three minutes later, Mulgrew combined with Burns but the former couldn't get his final shot on target from ten yards.

Substitute Ryan Henderson almost secured the points for Linfield with virtually his first touch of the game a minute into added time with a header from a Mark McAllister delivery but he could only look on as the ball dropped just wide.
