Glentoran moved back into the top six with this defeat of Carrick Rangers at the Belfast Loughshore Hotel Arena.
Carrick might have raced into the lead during the opening exchanges when first Andrew Mooney hit the crossbar before Eamon Scannell's follow-up suffered a similar fate.
And the explosive start continued on three minutes when, on the counter attack, Robbie McDaid fired the Glens in front with a ball under Harry Doherty.
Darren Henderson levelled for Rangers six minutes before half-time when Calum Birney failed to clear Mooney's cross allowing Henderson to drill the ball low into the bottom corner.
But Henderson squandered the opportunity to fire Carrick in front on 49 minutes when he hit the post from a penalty awarded after Ross Redman had fouled Lee Chapman.
Dylan Davidson then became the latest player to hit the woodwork when his long rang effort clipped the crossbar before falling to safety.
However, Glentoran eventually earned the points in stoppage time when Marcus Kane glanced a header into the top corner from James Knowles' free-kick.
