LINFIELD COAST TO COMPREHENSIVE VICTORY AT THE SHOWGROUNDS

LINFIELD remain four points clear at the top of the table following this comfortable defeat of Ballymena United at The Showgrounds.

Matt Tipton tapped the Blues in front after just four minutes when he pounced on a Dwayne Nelson fumble from Billy Joe Burns' free-kick.

Andrew Waterworth made it 2-0 seven minutes from the break after he lifted a shot over Nelson following a Tipton through ball.

United hauled themselves back into the game two minutes after the break when a poor Sean Ward header allowed David Cushley through to fire low and hard into the bottom corner.

However, the Blues restored their two-goal advantage on the hour when Waterworth crossed from the right for Billy Joe Burns to easily head home.

And the scoring was completed on 67 minutes after an Aaron Burns effort took a deflection off Mark McCullagh and past Nelson.

Linfield could well have extended their by now considerable advantage when first Gault and, later, Aaron Burns both turned efforts onto the woodwork.
