Chris Casement, Jamie Tomelty, Alan Blayney and Peter Thompson celebrate Linfield's 50th league title (Picture: William Cherry/

LINFIELD finally laid claim to their 50th league title with a comprehensive four goal victory over Lisburn Distillery at Ballyskeagh.

Although the destination of the Gibson Cup hadn't really been in any doubt it was still mathematically possible for Crusaders to catch the Blues, albeit with a vastly inferior goal difference.

But all those nagging doubts were put to rest on Easter Tuesday as David Jeffrey's side strolled to that win over the Whites while the Crues lost the north Belfast bragging rights to near neighbours Cliftonville.

At the foot of the table Newry City shipped four goals without reply at home to Glenavon to confirm ownership of the wooden spoon and almost certain relegation, subject to domestic club licensing.
