WARRENPOINT Town grabbed all three points from this Boxing Day bottom of the table clash with Ards to move out of the play-off positions.

In a lively first half Ards might have snatched the lead on 23 minutes when Willie Faulkner found himself through on goal but his great effort was touched onto the crossbar by Warrenpoint 'keeper Jonathan Parr.

Then, a minute later at the other end, Stephen McCabe fired the hosts in front with a 20-yard speculative drive which Ards 'keeper Graeme McKibbin spilled into the net.

The second half was delayed due to a problem with the Milltown floodlights but when play did resume Daniel Hughes almost made it 2-0 to Barry Gray's side with a 50th minute snapshot.

Warrenpoint were reduced to ten men on 59 minutes following Darren King's second yellow card but, undeterred by this, McCabe made it 2-0 three minutes Later when he got on the end of a cross to fire home.

Ards fought hard to salvage something from the game with James Cully failing to make the most of a free header on 73 minutes while, five minutes from time, Stephen Gordon also came close with a header.
