NIFWA CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Larne man Darren Stuart has been named Championship Player of the Month for December by NIFWA.

While Larne's new signings have grabbed the headlines, Stuart made the case for the club's old boys with a string of fine displays in the final month of the calendar year.

The Inver Reds claimed for wins in December, getting the better of Limavady United, Lurgan Celtic, Ballyclare Comrades and Newry City.

NIFWA Chairman Keith Bailie said, "Darren has been in superb form this month. He scored a late winner against Limavady, before scoring against both Lurgan Celtic and Ballyclare. I know the Larne fans enjoyed his goal on Boxing Day.

"Darren is a top player in the Championship, who can play in either attack or midfield, and I've no doubt he will be a big player for them in the future, even with all the new signings.

"I'd like to congratulate Darren on his award, it is well deserved." On Saturday, Larne host Dergview in the Fifth Round of the Irish Cup.
