Ards goalkeeper Sam Johnston collected his award from NIFWA Chairman Keith Bailie.

Ards goalkeeper Sam Johnston has been named Player of the Month for April by the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association.

Johnston's incredible form helped Ards avoid automatic relegation, securing their place in the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off.

Johnston kept clean sheets against both Institute and Dungannon Swifts, as well as saving a penalty against Newry City.

A delighted Johnston said upon collection his Belleek trophy, "This is a massive honour for me. I was second in September and I thought my chance was gone, so to win it in April is brilliant.

"As a team, I think we have done really well to avoid automatic relegation. Some people wrote us off after the Newry defeat, but we've really improved since then."
