WARRENPOINT Town took their place at the top table of local football but they were to suffer late disappointment at Stangmore Park.

Dungannon frontman James Costello created the first moment of note after a quarter-of-an-hour with an effort just off target.

At the other end, on 26 minutes, Stephen McCabe sent an effort the wrong side of an upright from the edge of the area.

However Warrenpoint only had to wait another eight minutes for this goal in senior football when Kenny Kearns connected with a Stephen Hughes pass to finish with style.

But any hopes Barry Gray's men had of going in at the break in front were dashed right on the half-time whistle when Liam Bagnall brought down P.J. Lavery with Matt Hazley stepping up to convert the penalty.

The Swifts went ahead on 51 minutes through summer signing David McCullough who was on hand to nod home a Ryan Harpur cross.

'Point might have levelled soon after only for Stephen Hughes to turn a header back off the crossbar.

They did grab the equaliser with four minutes remaining, however, when Liam Bagnall blasted home a 25-yard volley.

However, 'Point's first foray into senior circles was to end in defeat when, three minutes later, Hazley grabbed his second of the game into the bottom left corner to claim the spoils for the Swifts.
