OWENS HAT-TRICK HELPS CRUES STORM TO VICTORY

Jordan Owens claimed the match ball with a hat-trick as Crusaders roared back from a goal down to thump Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

Paul Heatley might have opened the scoring for the visitors as early as the third minute only to see his effort cleared off the line.

At the other end a couple of minutes later Josh Daniels almost capitalised on a mix-up in the Crues defence after connecting to Stephen Hughes' cross only to be denied by 'keeper Brian Jensen.

However, Glenavon edged in front just after a quarter-of-an-hour had elapsed thanks to Mark Sykes' finish following a one-two with Daniels which ended with a low shot across goal into the bottom corner.

Both sides looked to gain the advantage with Andrew Mitchell twice being thwarted with two goalbound efforts blocked while, for the Crues, Gavin Whyte saw an effort well tipped over by Tuffey.

Crusaders levelled nine minutes later through Owens who pounced on a Rhys Marshall backpass to take the ball round Johnny Tuffey before tapping home.

Stephen Baxter's side took the lead for the first time six minutes before half-time. Andrew Doyle was adjudged to have handled inside the area and, from the spot-kick that followed, Whyte confidently drilled the ball home straight down the middle.

The Crues extended their advantage five minutes after the break with Owens' second of the game, a backpost header after the home defence failed to clear their lines.

Then, just a couple of minutes after that, Whyte also doubled his tally with a fantastic 25-yard finish after cutting in from the left.

Number five for the visitors came with 20 minutes remaining after Heatley was played through to touch the ball over Tuffey into the net.

And Owens completed his hat-trick in the closing stages, smashing a cross past Tuffey from the edge of the area.
