PLENTY OF HOME COMFORT AS THE BLUES RACE FIVE POINTS CLEAR

LINFIELD raced five points clear at the top of the Carling Premiership in the wake of a comfortable defeat of Crusaders at Windsor Park as nearest challengers Glentoran stumbled for the second time in four days.

The Blues can point to a Peter Thompson brace after Mark McAllister had opened the scoring on a night they were rarely troubled.

Glentoran, on the other hand, fell to two early goals from Kyle McVey and Aaron Black at Coleraine before Leon Knight added a third after the hour with only a late Peter Steele consolation to show for their efforts.

Cliftonville moved into third after twice coming from behind to defeat Lisburn Distillery at Solitude while Glenavon also recovered from an early setback to get the better of Newry City at Mourneview Park.

And Ballymena United returned to winning ways with a home victory over Portadown while Dungannon Swifts grabbed a crucial three points in their bottom of the table clash with Donegal Celtic.
