Danske Bank Premiership duo Kofi Balmer (Ballymena United) and Christopher Gallagher (Glentoran) featured in the Northern Ireland Under-21’s draw with Malta on Friday evening.

Ian Barraclough’s side were held to a scoreless draw in their opening UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier at the Showgrounds, despite having a number of chances to seal all three points.

Balmer started the game for the home side and was booked in the first half, whilst Gallagher came off the bench as a second half substitute. Glenavon defender Caolan Marron was an unused substitute whilst his former Lurgan Blues team-mate Bobby Burns (now with Hearts) started in the heart of the defence.

Northern Ireland Under-21’s now travel to Finland for their next qualification game on Tuesday evening.
