REDS TOO STRONG FOR SKY BLUES AT SOLITUDE

CLIFTONVILLE returning to winning ways at Solitude for the first time in almost two months with this defeat of struggling Ballymena United.

Stephen Garrett opened the scoring for the Reds after 16 minutes when he raced onto a Joe Gormley through ball to burst past defender Michael Ruddy and fire beyond Stuart Addis into the bottom corner.

Ballymena's had a chance early on came when skipper Allan Jenkins forced a good save from Conor Devlin while Mark Surgenor fired straight at the 'keeper after being played through by David Cushley.

But Cushley did grab United's equaliser a minute from the break with a great finish into the bottom corner.

However, the Reds regained the lead three minutes into the second half after Liam Boyce was given too much space to connect with a Garrett pass and slot the ball between the legs of 'keeper Addis.

Gormley then squandered a chance to make it 3-1 when headed over from six yards after Martin Donnelly had delivered a corner.

Jenkins might have levelled for the Sky Blues a couple of minutes from time but couldn't find a way past Devlin.
