REDS WIN SIX-GOAL SOLITUDE THRILLER

Cliftonville twice came from behind to ultimately defeat Coleraine in what was an entertaining clash at Solitude.

The Bannsiders opened the scoring after nine minutes through Jamie McGonigle's excellent finish from a Steven Douglas cross.

Cliftonville levelled just four minutes later, however, after Rory Donnelly flashed the ball into the far corner after Ryan Curran found him on the left side of the area.

Coleraine regained the advantage five minutes after that when McGonigle turned provider to tee up James McLaughlin to fire home.

And McLaughlin could have extended Coleraine's lead just after the half-hour mark only to fire just wide from inside the box.

But Cliftonville equalised again on 37 minutes courtesy of a Ryan Curran tap in when Joe Gormley's initial effort was kept out.

Chris Curran might then had edged the Reds in front for the first time with two efforts before the break ... but Paddy McLaughlin's side did go in at half-time on top when Jamie Harney found the net after connecting with Aaron Harkin's corner moments from the interval.

Looking to extend their lead Cliftonville came close through Rory Donnelly and then Niall Grace early in the second half while, for Coleraine, Ian Parkhill struck the woodwork before seeing another chance whistle just past the post before the hour.

Gormley had the ball in the net for Cliftonville on 67 minutes after being found by Donnelly but the 'goal' was ruled out offside.

Coleraine then had a couple of opportunities to get back onto level terms themselves when Stephen O'Donnell flicked a header over with McGonigle being denied by great fingertip save from Richard Brush.

However, the game was settled deep into stoppage time when Ryan Curran stepped up to fire a penalty straight down the middle, awarded after substitute Thomas Maguire had been upended by O'Donnell.
