WARRENPOINT Town moved up to ninth in the Danske Bank Premiership with this crucial defeat of Glentoran at The Oval.
Played in difficult conditions in a swirling wind on a heavy pitch it was perhaps no surprise that the first real effort of note didn't arrive until the 32nd minute when Glentoran 'keeper Elliott Morris punted a long clearance forward which, assisted by the wind, went straight into the hands of his opposite number Johnny Parr.
Both sides might have found the net through more conventional means just before the break.
On 38 minutes a Marty Havern drive was well palmed away by Morris while, on the stroke of half-time, Parr was called into action to deny a point blank Niall Henderson effort.
The visitors snatched the advantage six minutes into the second half through Havern after he got on the end of a Liam Bagnall through ball to round Morris and slide a shot into the empty net.
But the Glens levelled on 62 minutes when a Curtis Allen cross was deflected into the path of Aaron Boyd who knocked it back across the face of goal for David Scullion to touch home from a couple of yards out.
However, 'Point regained the lead eight minutes later through Padraig Smith after he rammed the ball home when Stephen McCabe's initial effort was blocked by Morris.
Glentoran came close to grabbing the equaliser with with eight minutes remaining when a William Garrett cross was knocked on by Henderson into Allen's path only for his chip to go over.
Then, a few minutes after that, Scullion headed a Jonathan Addis cross onto the bar but Henderson could only fire the rebound over.
At the other end Jonathan Cowan almost added a third for the visitors when he found himself bearing down on Morris only to be denied by a perfectly timed Allen tackle.
