A TERRY Fitzpatrick goal gave Dungannon Swifts the edge over Warrenpoint Town at Stangmore Park.

After having two early 'goals' ruled out offside the Swifts finally moved in front after 14 minutes when a ball from the far side was headed on by Gary Liggett for Fitzpatrick to flick into the net.

It was almost 2-0 four minutes later when Grant Hutchinson knocked the ball on for Ryan Harpur to pivot in the box only to fire his subsequent shot over.

Warrenpoint almost got back on level terms when Swifts defender David McCullough came close to knocking the ball into his own net whilst sliding in to make a block.

Liam Bagnall also came close for 'Point only to send a header wide while, at the other end, Liggett skied an effort after finding himself one-on-one with Jonathan Parr.

Stephen McCabe might then have found Warrenpoint's equaliser two minutes after the break with an effort from the left.

Then, on 66 minutes, Daniel Hughes scraped the ball against an upright as 'Point looked the more likely to score.

However, a few minutes after that, Liggett did have the ball in the net for the Swifts only for his curling effort into the top corner to fall foul of the offside rule.
