BALLYMENA United twice held the advantage at The Showgrounds but in the end had to settle for a point.

After a somewhat scrappy opening period it fell to the Sky Blues opened the scoring on 29 minutes when Alan Davidson made it two goals in as many weeks with an effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after a good build up from Gary McCutcheon.

The Whites levelled six minutes later. Rory Carson conceded a penalty after bringing down Gary Thompson inside the area and from the resultant spot-kick Mark Cooling found the net via the post and a deflection off 'keeper Dwayne Nelson.

But, with three minutes of the first half remaining, United regained the advantage through leading marksman McCutcheon after he found himself unmarked 10 yards from goal to slot the ball past Billy Brennan.

United almost added a third early in the second period only for a David Munster header to skim an upright while James Costello was guilty of squandering a gilt-edged opportunity.

Distillery came close to levelling a little later only for a low David Cushley drive to be pushed away by Nelson.

They did equalise on 73 minutes, however, when some sloppy home defending allowed Thompson in to fire past Nelson from six yards.
