Glentoran and Ballymena United shared the goals and the points in front of the Sky Sports cameras at The Oval.

After a cagey opening, the visitors moved in front after a quarter-of-an-hour when Cathair Friel sent Elliott Morris the wrong way from the spot after Marcus Kane had upended Gary Thompson.

The Glens looked for a quick response with both Curtis Allen and Robbie McDaid coming close.

However, United seemed more likely to add to their tally with Jonathan McMurray thwarted by the quick reactions of Morris - who later denied Conor McCloskey - while Friel squandered an opportunity from a Steven McCullough pass.

Glentoran levelled ten minutes into the second, however. Substitute Dylan Davidson did well to deliver a low cross from the left which Ross Glendinning pushed out only as far as James Knowles who promptly returned it into the back of the net.

David Jeffrey's side might have regained the lead soon after but Morris once again kept them out with a smart save to beat away Friel's effort.

At the other end Allen fired over from Kane's pass from a good position and while United did have the ball in the net after that - Friel strayed offside before 'scoring' - both sides had to settle for a point apiece.
