STALEMATE IN THE SEAVIEW SUN

CRUSADERS and Ballymena United cancelled each other out in this scoreless draw at Seaview.

The sides traded chances inside the opening quarter-of-an-hour.

Gary Thompson forced Crues 'keeper Sean O'Neill into a fine save on five minutes after Colin Coates had failed to cut out a Jamie Davidson cross.

And eight minutes later at the other end Dwayne Nelson did well to deny a David McMaster effort.

Unfortunately this relatively bright start didn't continue for the remainder of the first half with both sides guilty of poor finishing from what limited opportunities were created.

United did threaten to break the deadlock moments from the interval after David Cushley offered up a well executed free-kick but O'Neill got down well to make the save.

The second period was equally bereft of chances although substitute Timmy Adamson did create a moment of danger around the hour with a downward header.

New United signing James McCabe, a second half substitute, might have marked his debut with a goal ten minutes from time when he tested O'Neill but, again, the Crues custodian was equal to the challenge.
