Jordan Stewart bagged a hat-trick as Linfield swept to a four-goal victory over Warrenpoint Town at Windsor Park.
Despite the eventual outcome it was the visitors that made the brighter start to the game with Alan O'Sullivan being denied only by a timely Jimmy Callacher block while a Ciaran O'Connor cross almost deceived Roy Carroll before falling to safety.
However, Linfield went in at the break on top when Stewart opened his account with a 41st minute sidefoot finish after Joel Cooper had picked him out.
O'Sullivan had an opportunity to leve early in the second half but could fire straight at Carroll after turning well in the box while Philip Donnelly's lob a short time later went close.
But, just short of the hour, Stewart doubled Linfield's advantage. Referee Lee Tavinder pointed to the spot after penalising Anto Reilly for handball and from the penalty that followed Stewart sent the keeper the wrong way witha shot into the top right corner.
That was how it stayed until ten minutes from time when Andy Waterworth added a third for the Blues with a flicked header from Niall Quinn's delivery.
Then, just three minutes after that, Stewart claimed the match ball with a well executed volley from around ten yards after Stephen Fallon's cushioned header fell into his path.
Warrenpoint ended the game with ten men following Matthew Lynch's stoppage time dismissal for pulling back Michael O'Connor.
