UNITED PUT BOTTOM OF THE TABLE INSTITUTE TO THE SWORD

Ballymena United kept an all too rare clean sheet with this three-goal defeat of basement boys Institute at The Showgrounds.

After a fairly quiet opening the deadlock was broken on 17 minutes when Gary McCutcheon sent Martin Gallagher the wrong way from the spot after Gary Thompson had been fouled in the area by Stephen O'Donnell.

Then, nine minutes later, it was 2-0 after Allan Jenkins finished from inside the six yard box following Eamon McAllister's cutback from a quickly taken Gary Thompson free-kick.

McAllister got in on the act himself on 38 minutes with United's third when he reacted quickest to head home after a Jenkins shot from Tony Kane's right-sided run and cross was parried by Gallagher.

After the break Robbie Hume might have pulled one back for 'Stute with a strong left-foot effort but United 'keeper Tim Allen was equal to the challenge with an outstanding stop.

At the other end Gallagher did equally as well to keep out a Johnny Taylor effort
with his feet.
