WHITES PART COMPANY WITH MCCANN AS RELEGATION CONFIRMED

LISBURN Distillery formally fell through the relegation trapdoor following this defeat to Ballymena United at Ballyskeagh.

The club also parted company with manager Tim McCann and his assistant Gary Smyth immediately after the game.

Former home favourite, Gary Liggett, opened the scoring for the visitors after nine minutes with a low drive under Billy Brennan after a Shane Dolan effort had been blocked.

The Whites might have levelled within ten minutes after United 'keeper Dwayne Nelson could only push out a Jordan Hughes corner as far as Mickey Withers.

After the break defender Aaron Smyth was forced to head a United effort off the line while Brennan spread himself to thwart Alan Teggart five minutes later.

Withers had another effort later in the second half only to stumble in but, with seven minutes remaining, Alan Davidson put the issue beyond doubt with a finish into the far corner from a Neil Lowry through ball.
