SOME of the Irish League's brightest young stars have been named in the Northern Ireland U17 squad ahead next week's UEFA European Championship Elite Round qualifiers.

Boss Stephen Robinson has called up no fewer than eight players currently on the books of Danske Bank Premiership clubs for the games against mini-tournament hosts Netherlands (21st March), Norway (23rd March) and Italy (26th March).

League leaders Cliftonville have four players in the panel, namely Brett Long, Conor Doran, Patrick McAllister and Ross Lavery.

Also called up are Kris Lowe (Dungannon Swifts), Martin Bradley (Linfield), Dale Patton (Glentoran) and Robbie McDaid (Glenavon).

Indeed, McDaid has made five first team appearances for the Lurgan Blues this season as well as being an unused substitute on a further ten occasions while Cliftonville 'keeper Long was named in the Reds' Setanta Sports Cup panel for the trip to Cork City early last month.
