Last year’s beaten finalists Ballymena United safely progressed to the next round of the BetMcLean League Cup following a 5-1 victory over Dollingstown at Dixon Park.
United started brightly at Dixon Park and the Sky Blues soon took the lead as McGinty slid the ball through to Cathair Friel who finished well past Croft on 15 minutes.
On 29 minutes, Dollingstown equalised when Richard Thompson found space to smartly turn and fire past McDermott from just inside the penalty area.
Ballymena United restored their lead on the stroke of half time when Leroy Millar took advantage of the loose ball after the Dollingstown goalkeeper failed to hold onto the loose ball.
It was Millar again who extended his side’s lead on 49 minutes with his second of the game, his low drive slipping through Croft’s hands before nestling in the bottom corner.
On 64 minutes Caithar Friel broke free for his second goal of the game and United’s fourth as his low drive proved unstoppable for the Dollingstown defence.
Adam Lecky made it five for the Braidmen as he followed in substitute Jonathan McMurray’s parried effort on 71 minutes.
