Cliftonville's George McMullan, winner of IRN-BRU Ginger Boot

GEORGE McMullan's expertly crafted curler is the Ginger Boot Award winner for Round Three of the IRN-BRU League Cup.

The IRN-BRU Ginger Boot Award recognizes the best goal from each round with the winner receiving a pair of special IRN-BRU branded footy boots.

The flame-haired Cliftonville midfielder produced a moment of great skill and composure with just 71 seconds on the clock against Dungannon Swifts at Solitude.

Following two fizzing volleys from previous Ginger Boot winners Paul Maguire and Darren Boyce, it was a little slice of subtlety that won the day this time, McMullan setting the Reds on their way to an impressive 5-0 home win.

"Ciaran [Caldwell] put over the corner and I hung about at the back post," George recalls. "Dungannon didn't really clear it that well and I took one touch and floated it into the top corner."

An instinctive finish from the 30-year-old and a case of eat your heart out Robin van Persie (his lob against Sunderland came back off the woodwork).

"We had beaten Dungannon 4-1 the previous weekend," said Cliftonville coach, Peter Murray.

"I told the lads to go out and try to get an early goal to kill the game. I didn't think George would take me that seriously."
