Darren Boyce, winner of the 'Ginger Boot' for his IRN-BRU League Cup second round volley against Killymoon Rangers

FOR the second round in succession a spectacular volley has won the IRN-BRU League Cup Ginger Boot Award.
Following on from Paul Maguire's stunning strike in Round One it was the turn of Glentoran winger Darren Boyce to have the terraces buzzing with his fantastic first-time finish in the seven-goal rout of Killymoon Rangers.
The Ginger Boot Award recognises the best goal from each round with the winner receiving a unique pair of IRN-BRU branded footy boots.
Boyce bagged a brace on the night, but it was the first of his two goals that really caught the eye of the judges.
"Marty Murray picked out my run and played a great ball in," recalls Boyce. "It was one of those that falls over your shoulder and can end up in the top corner or the top row of the stand."
A modest assessment of a goal that had his manager, Scott Young, purring: "First-up there was some fantastic imagination from Marty [Murray] to flick the ball over the defence and Darren took it brilliantly. To volley a dropping ball like that is never easy."
Young, who scored his fair share of net-busters during a career cut short by injury, was also quick to add his endorsement to the competition's sponsor.
"I just wanted to say that it's great to see IRN-BRU sponsoring the League Cup. Mind you as a Glaswegian I am a bit biased."
