Portadown manager Matthew Tipton has agreed a new contract with the club in a full-time deal that will keep him at Shamrock Park for another five years.

The 40-year-old joined the Ports at the end of February 2018 and guided the club to promotion from the Championship last season. Prior to that he cut his managerial teeth at Warrenpoint Town, claiming the Championship and Mid-Ulster Cup double during the 2016/17 campaign.

Speaking about the news on the official club website, Tipton said, "It goes without saying I’m delighted that the club has seen fit to reward myself with this deal.

"I’m more impressed in the vision that the board is showing and the way that they see the club moving forward. This ambition and foresight is what attracted me to the club just over three years ago and has only intensified since.

"I feel that we are on the start of something special with this young squad and I want to develop the whole club into a more professional setup."
