NIFWA CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYER OF THE MONTH

NEWRY City man Declan Carville has been named Championship Player of the Month by NIFWA for October.

Carville was instrumental in Newry's recent success, helping them to four wins in four games. In the Bluefin Championship, Newry defeated Limavady United (3-1), Knockbreda (1-0) and Portadown (4-1) with Carville finding the net against both Breda and the Ports. City also knocked Dungannon Swifts out of the Mid-Ulster Cup.

A delighted Carville said, "It's an honour for me to win this award but it would not have been possible without my team mates. There's a fantastic atmosphere at Newry at the moment and we believe we are capable of beating any team in our division."

NIFWA Chairman Keith Bailie said, "Declan has been excellent form this season, particularly in October, and he is a worthy winner of the Belleek trophy. He and his team mates deserve a lot of credit for finishing the month with a 100% record in the Championship. It's a big effort for a club who have only just been promoted."

Newry will be hoping to make it five league wins in a row on Friday night when they host Harland & Wolff Welders.

Carville said, "It's a big game for us because there isn't much between us and the Welders. We're not talking about a promotion push at the moment but the division is wide open, so you never know what can happen."
