BATTLE OF THE GLENS DRAWS A BLANK
Glentoran and Glenavon shared the spoils in a scoreless draw at the BetMcLean Oval.
David McDaid created the first effort of note when, during the opening exchanges, he tested home keeper Daniel Gyollai with a strong drive from 20 yards.
Glentoran came closest to opening the scoring when, right on the stroke of half-time, James Carroll cleared the danger after a Danny Amos free-kick by passed everyone in the area.
The home side threatened again early in the second half after Frankie Hvid rose highest to head goalwards from a corner but Glenavon keeper Gareth Deane was on hand to make the save.
Glenavon had three opportunities to go in front midway through the half with a Keith Ward free-kick being stopped by Gyollai, who then denied Carroll's attempt to convert the rebound before the ball fell loose again for Barney McKeown but, again, the home custodian dealt with the danger.
Both sides had chances late in the game, with Jay Donnelly cutting inside to test Deane with a powerful effort while Harry Lynch was thwarted by the advancing Gyollai as he had a go from the edge of the area.
