BLUES KEEP MOMENTUM GOING AT THE TOP

Linfield Ladies kept the momentum going with a 3-0 defeat of Glentoran Women’s in their second league meeting this season.

It was a fairly even opening to the game with Glentoran starting brightly as Rachel Rogan tested Lauren Perry with a shot from outside the box. Linfield's Megan Bell brought out the best of Lauren Currie in the Glentoran goal with a terrific shot that was expertly pushed over the bar by the visiting keeper.

Linfield took the lead on 26 minutes not long after the first water break when Bell released Rebecca McKenna who cut in from a wide right position to guide the ball into the net past Currie.

On 34 minutes Bell almost added a second when she worked her way into the box from a wide left position but her strike on goal was well blocked by Currie.

Linfield doubled the lead as half time approached when Alison Smyth who jumped highest to guide her header in off the post.

In the opening stages of the second half Glentoran pressed hard and assumed control as they fought to get back into the game.

On the hour mark Glentoran thought they had scored but the assistant referee ruled the goal offside. With Linfield under pressure the Blues then extended their lead on 72 minutes. Smyth nodded a Chelsea Myles right wing cross down into the path of Louise McDaniel who made certain and gave Linfield a three goal cushion.

Linfield kept the pressure on the visitors as Bell released Smyth whose shot from the edge of the box was just the wrong side of the post.
