In perfect conditions, Sion Swifts travelled to Ballymena United Allstars, returning with four goals and all three points.

Sion started brightest, winning an early free kick that the Ballymena defence scrambled away. A few minutes later, a long range effort by Sky Blues captain Michelle McDonald was well held by the Swifts 'keeper in a busy opening exchange.

Sion had a number of chances to break the deadlock with a low shot from Zoe McGlynn going just wide and Kendra McMullan drawing a good save from Ballymena ‘keeper Anna Daley with a long range strike on target from just outside the box.

Swifts made the breakthrough on 39 minutes when a free-kick by Ballymena’s Daley found Sion’s Amy Boyle Carr and she curled a lovely shot into the top left corner from the edge of the box.

Two minutes later Boyle Carr reached the by-line and after her first shot was saved, found the back of the net from close range.

The second half saw both teams maintain the high energy performance of the first, with both sides creating chances.

The first of the half fell to Swifts captain Kendra McMullan whose shot from just outside the box, following a short corner, went just over the bar. A few minutes later, Zoe McGlynn played a lovely cross the face of the Ballymena goal but Lauren Harper just couldn’t connect with the ball.

On 57 minutes, Sion extended their lead when Kendra McMullan beat the Ballymena off-side trap and one on one with the ‘keeper, made no mistake.

Ballymena continued to work hard, battling to get back into the game, and won a free kick  on the half way line two minutes later. Rebekah Reynolds sent the ball forward, a flick from Michelle McDonald almost found Caitlin Berry but the striker couldn’t connect with the ball to get a shot away.

Reynolds herself went close following another free kick, delivered this time by Naomi McMullan, the ball going agonisingly wide of the left post.

The Sky Blues couldn’t find a way through the Swifts defence and instead it was Sion who got the final goal of the game when Chloe McGlade scored with a close range effort on 75 minutes.
