Linfield Ladies got back to winning ways with a crushing victory over Sion Swifts.

The Swifts kicked off their third home game in the Danske Bank Women's Premiership looking for a result that would keep them in contention.

Sion started the game flat and the visitors opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Kelly Crompton gave away a foul at the edge of the box. Kirsty McGuinness swung the free kick into the back post and Alison Smyth found the net with a powerful header.

Sion came into the game and over the next 20 minutes the two teams took turns attacking.

On the stroke of half-time McGuinness punished Sion by passing the ball into the corner of the net past Niamh Mailey.

Sion came out in the second half lifting the pace of their game but found themselves 3-0 down after Lauren Robson capitalised on a mistake by Sion defender Teresa Burns in front of goal.

Smyth doubled her tally on 70 minutes after a scramble on the goalline that Sion were unable to clear.

And she grabbed her hat-trick in the last 10 minutes at the back post to seal an important win for the league champions.
