Players from the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership were in action as Northern Ireland Under-19’s competed in the elite stages of qualifying for the Women’s Under-19 Euros.
Two years on from hosting the finals, there were 14 players from five of the Women’s Premiership clubs in Alfie Wylie’s squad for the three game series in Norway over the past week.
Wylie named an unchanged starting eleven for all three group games which featured nine of the eleven from the domestic league; Lauren Perry, Naomi Donnan, Abbie Magee, Kelsie Burrows, Rebecca McKenna, Megan Bell and Louise McDaniel (all Linfield) featured alongside Yasmin White (Glentoran Women) and Caitlyn Hamilton (Crusaders Strikers).
Leah McDaid (Derry City) and Ebony Lecky (Sion Swifts Ladies) both came off the bench to win caps in the second group game against Denmark.
Northern Ireland’s Under-19’s started the mini-group with an impressive display against hosts Norway but were defeated 2-1 on Wednesday (3 April). They suffered a 3-1 defeat to Denmark in match two with Louise McDaniel scoring after 73 minutes.
In the final group game against Ukraine, Northern Ireland took an early lead through Linfield’s Louise McDaniel again and despite leading twice in the game, they conceded two late goals to Ukraine when it looked like they would earn their first point of the group, eventually losing 4-2.
