SEVEN-UP FOR CLIFTONVILLE AWAY TO NEWCOMERS PORTADOWN

Cliftonville Ladies started the Danske Bank Women's Premiership campaign in style with a 7-1 victory away to Portadown Ladies.

It was an historic fixture for the Shamrock Park club who played their first ever match in the Dankse Bank Women's Premiership.

For the visitors it was a special evening for Marissa Callaghan who scored four goals as her role as player coach. Earlier that week Callaghan had scored a hat-trick in a County Antrim Cup fixture.

It was Callaghan that opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.  Portadown levelled matters in the 24th minute when Hannah Grieve's free-kick was adjudged to have crossed the line despite visiting protests.

Callaghan then added her second in the 27th minute to restore the lead. This goal coming about from a fine pass from Billie Simpson.

After the break, Simpson got in on the scoring herself when a well-timed volley made it 3-1 and the same player headed in Cliftonville's fourth.

With twenty-five minutes remaining Callaghan continued the scoring with a smart header into the top right corner to complete her hat-trick before, just three minutes later she scored her fourth and Cliftonville's sixth of the evening.

Former Mid Ulster ladies player Chloe Orr got in on the act to cap a fantastic night infront of goal for the North Belfast side.
