Right from kick-off Cliftonville looked much more like the team that fnished runners-up last season with Billie Simpson and Molly White proving a handful for the veteran Kelly Ballie at the heart of the visiting defence.
And it was indeed the home side who took the lead just after half-an-hour had elapsed when White cut inside from the right to find Simpson who made no mistake with her strike.
It took only six minutes for the Glens to equalise when Carragh Milligan tucked the ball away after a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
The visitors started the second half with tails up going on the attack right from the kick off, it took only two minutes for the industrious Carragh Milligan to again weave her way in from the left before unleashing an unstoppable strike which left Reds 'keeper Anna McCleary helpless.
The east Belfast girls must have thought that the points were safely in the bag when the ball came off Cliftonville's Rebecca Cargill after substitute Ali McMaster, who had just replaced the injured Bailie, had fired towards goal.
Cliftonville were not going to lie down though and new signing Emma McAleese gave them a lifeline when her strike left Glens 'keeper Ashleigh McKinnon rooted to the spot as the ball nestled in the corner.
That fighting spirit which had been missing from the north Belfast team was certainly back and they got their reward in added time when Simpson struck home to grab her second goal of the game and a valuable point for the Solitude side.
