It's gameweek two of the Danske Bank Women's Premiership season and a first game of the season for title chasing Sion Swifts Ladies, Jonny Martin previews.
Linfield Ladies v Glentoran Womens FC (kick-off: 8pm; venue: Midgley Park)
Linfield Ladies will host Belfast rivals Glentoran Women in their first home game at the revamped Midgley Park stadium. This will be the first competitive fixture Linfield Ladies will have played at the venue and a local derby against Glentoran should provide a fantastic opening game to mark the occasion. The Blues come into this fixture after a 7-0 victory on the opening night away to Derry City Ladies. Megan Bell will be hoping to continue her fine goal scoring form having bagged a hat-trick at the Brandywell.
The Blues are boosted by the return of Northern Ireland International Ashley Hutton and have the same squad as last week. Glentoran Women will be aiming to pick up their first victory of the campaign following a scoreless draw against Crusaders Strikers. In that opening game Glentoran had much of the possession and hit the woodwork and deserved to break the deadlock. Recent signing Aoife Lennon will boost the squad after missing out in last weeks stalemate.
Portadown Ladies v Crusaders Strikers (kick-off: 8pm; venue: Shamrock Park)
Portadown Ladies will host Crusaders Strikers at Shamrock Park in another historic fixture. This will be the first competitive fixture between these sides. It has been a difficult start to the season for the County Armagh club with an opening day defeat to Cliftonville. There where positives from that opening defeat, Hannah Grieve's well placed free kick giving Portadown their first goal of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership.
As for the visitors Crusaders, they will be aiming to find the net following a scoreless and well-earned point at The Oval. Ryan McConville’s side have signed strongly in the winter and will be aiming to collect all three points on their travels.
Sion Swifts Ladies v Derry City Ladies (kick-off: 8pm; venue: Darragh Park)
The last fixture of the evening will see a North West derby as Sion Swifts Ladies host Derry City Ladies. Sion Swifts will get their Danske Bank Women’s Premiership season up and running following a rest week on the opening night. Sion finished in second spot in last years Premiership and will be aiming to go one place further. The Swifts also won last seasons Irish Cup and have signed well over the break. They have recruited former Everton Ladies goalkeeper Olivia Walker and Amy Boyle Carr will be boosted by her international goals and appearance’s for the Republic of Ireland.
The visitors will make the short journey to Darragh Park aiming to collect their first points of the season. Last week Derry City where defeated 7-0 at home but can feel very unfortunate not to trouble the score sheet against the Champions. It will be a return to her former club for Naomh Barr who plays in goal for the Candystripes.
