Institute closed in on the top two with a narrow defeat of morning leaders Portadown at The Brandywell.
An evenly fought first half saw 'Stute keeper Gareth Muldoon deny Eamon Fyfe while, at the other end, Kirk McLaughlin and Michael Harris tested Aaron Hogg.
But 'Stute led at the break when, with a couple of minutes of the first half remaining, Evan Tweed bagged what proved to be the only goal of the game with a super strike past Hogg.
The Ports came closest to levelling on the hour when Fyfe did find the net but his effort from a Ryan Mayse corner was ruled out.
