Glentoran exited the Europa League after a second half goal blitz helped Motherwell sweep to a comprehensive victory at Fir Park.

The sides traded chances during the opening exchanges, with the Glens forcing two early corners while Motherwell's Chris Long flashed an effort wide before, with around a quarter-of-an-hour gone, he produced a great stop from keeper Dayle Coleing.

Marcus Kane proved to be a threat for Mick McDermott's side, testing Trevor Carson with a shot on the turn and then finding Paul O'Neill with a cross which ended up being deflected wide. From the subsequent corner Ruaidhri Donnelly stooped to head the ball goalbound only for Carson to save with his legs.

At the other end Coleing was called into action to deny Stephen O'Donnell and then Long again within a couple of minutes.

The Glens were dealt a blow six minutes into the second half when they were reduced to ten men following Seanan Clucas' dismissal for a late tackle, his second booking of the game.

But, just minutes later, O'Neill went close with an effort from Chris Gallagher's low cross from the left, while Robbie McDaid flicked a header wide not long after that.

However, Motherwell moved in front just before the hour through Callum Lang after he got behind the Glentoran defence to flick a finish past Coleing.

It was 2-0 on 72 minutes, O'Donnell blasting into the roof of the net from distance after Liam Polworth had laid the ball off.

Polworth found the net himself soon after with a simple nod into an empty net after Coleing parried a rasping Long effort before Tony Watt added a fourth on 79 minutes from six yards following another Long attempt that had been pushed out.

Motherwell extended their advantage with three minutes remaining, Watt turning provider to set up Long to send a downward header into the net.

Glentoran did salvage a late consolation, however, through McDaid who converted from the spot on 89 minutes after 'Well substitute Harry Robinson fouled in the box.
