Portadown manager Matthew Tipton has made his second signing of the summer by securing the services of midfielder Barney McKeown on a two year contract.

The 19-year-old Camlough native rejoins the Ports from Newry City for whom he made 12 appearances last season. Prior to that the former Northern Ireland schoolboy international spent a year at Everton after starting his career as a youth at Shamrock Park.

McKeown cited the ambition at the club as one of his major reasons for signing.

"I think the key words around here at the moment are hungry and young team, and that's obviously an attractive thing for anyone. It seems to be really an exciting time for the club so I'm delighted to be here and to bring something to the team," he told the club social media channels.

"I want to make as big an impact as I can and get a good run of games, to get a good bit of form going and to perform in front of the fans."
