Linfield have announced the signing of Sam Roscoe as manager David Healy kicks off his preparations for the 2021/22 campaign.

Roscoe, 22, joins from Scottish Championship side Ayr United for whom he made 14 league appearances last season.

Although hailing from Manchester the central defender has spent his career north of the border, initially at the Aberdeen Youth Academy followed by a loan spell with Alloa Athletic ahead of his switch to Ayr in the summer of 2019.

He arrives at Windsor Park following the departure of defensive duo Mark Stafford and Mark Haughey as boss Healy told the official club website: "We've been targeting Sam for some time, he's looking forward to getting started.

"We've obviously known for some time that we'd need to bring in central defenders with the two Marks having moved on to Glenavon.

"I'm really looking forward to working with him when he joins us in a few weeks time and I know our supporters will give him a warm welcome when he comes over to meet up with his new team-mates."
