Portadown have confirmed the departure of manager Matthew Tipton with immediate effect.

An announcement on the club website stated: "Portadown Football club Board of Directors met with Matthew Tipton this afternoon and both have agreed a mutual parting of ways with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank Matthew for his hard work and dedication to the role and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

"A further coaching update will follow in due course."

The 41-year-old was appointed to the Shamrock Park hotseat in February 2018 on a two-and-a-half year contract.

At the time the club were fifth in the Championship but the Welshman guided them to a promotion play-off defeat the following season before, in the curtailed 2019/20 campaign, the Championship title was secured and with it a top flight return.

That first season back in the Premiership saw the Ports finish ninth but they have struggled to find form this term and sit in the relegation play-off spot seven points from safety having clocked up just two wins from their 23 outings to date.
