Glentoran’s Mick McDermott is Manager of the Month for August.

The Glens defeated Crusaders, Dungannon Swifts and Portadown to finish the month unbeaten.

McDermott said: “After a disappointing end to last season, we needed a good start to this season.

“Some people might say we haven’t played the top teams, because that’s people’s nature unfortunately, but I don’t look at it that way.

“Every team in the Premiership is capable of winning games. I’ve been very impressed by Newry City and Carrick Rangers have made a fantastic start to the season, so there’s no easy wins.

“You have to show up every week and play your best. If you don’t, you’ll lose. And that’s a great thing for the league.

“This is a great award to win and I’d like to thank the Football Writers’ for it, but I hope to win something better by the end of the season.”
