Portadown had kicked the weekend off with a 2-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls Bangor on Friday night thanks to Kenneth Kane’s stoppage time winner after David Hume had cancelled out Eamon Fyfe’s opener midway through the first half.

Institute needed just one goal to get the better of HW Welders at the Blanchflower Stadium with Michael Harris knocking home the decisive strike on 24 minutes after a dangerous ball had been played into the box.

Annagh United’s unbeaten run came to an end after nine games with defeat away to Ballinamallard, courtesy of John Edgar’s 95th minute winner for the Mallards while Knockbreda picked up only their third win of the season with a two-goal defeat of Ballyclare Comrades at Breda Park.

Marcus Murphy opened the scoring after eight minutes with a header from Matthew Henry’s cross, with Conor Quinn hitting the second on 55 minutes after Murphy’s initial effort had come off an upright.

Meanwhile, at Clandeboye Park, Ards hit two goals without reply past Dergview. Scoreless at the break, Lee Newell edged John Bailie’s side in front on 7 minutes with Michael Ruddy making sure from the spot in the closing moments.
